When I founded Idéeclic back in 1995 I had a clear vision; help museums and other educational institutions use the web as part of their interpretive strategy. I pushed them not just to advertise their location, but to really use the technology to reach out to people. At that time, museums were lucky to have a webpage with a picture and address – now look how far we’ve come! Through the years, we’ve worked to put collections and knowledge online, provide truly innovative ways to interpret and instruct, and to engage audiences with social media and mobile devices.
My team is at the heart of Idéeclic, striving for excellence and supporting each other and our clients. Without the team, Idéeclic would not be the company it is today – innovative, spirited, and true to my original vision. Even though we have changed with the times and the technology, the core values remain the same: commitment to the democratization of knowledge, access to collections, accessibility (W3C), bilingualism, and education. Our clients are our partners, sharing this mission; they stretch from Vancouver to Halifax, and many places in between – as well as in the USA and Europe. They are diverse, but share the common drive to help their audiences interact, learn and understand the world around them.
Kanvasys Division: Dedicated to Research & Development
It is important that technology – even though it may be new and popular – be best suited to our client’s needs. It was from working closely with our clients that my team noticed that more and more, they wanted to be able to reach their audiences on handheld devices, and they also wanted to be able to update these applications in-house, without hiring technical staff.
In response, I decided to create a new division – Kanvasys – dedicated to mobile technologies and research & development. Kanvasys has created a flexible, multi-platform app called inSitu – find out more by visiting www.kanvasys.net!
