Idéeclic and the Musée de la Civilisation de Quebec have partnered in the development of a unique, innovative online experience called Place-Royale, from the present to the past. This National Historic Site, located in Quebec City, Canada, was the site of the first permanent French settlement in North America, created by Samuel de Champlain in 1608.ng back 5000 years. 

 
The website presents visitors with a condensed history of Quebec and a virtual tour via five full screen 360° panoramic views and clickable “hot spots”. A slide show is also presented complemented by audio commentary. It features views of 40 objects from the Musée de la Civilisation’s (in Quebec City) collection, and 154 artefacts from the Place-Royale archaeological collection. In addition to many contemporary images of the site, there are also nearly one hundred historical images, and interactive geographic maps that allow visitors to see the evolution of the site since the founding of Quebec. While navigating,  it is possible to see the connections between points of interest, historical figures and historic events.  

These same points of interest are also part of a virtual quest that younger visitors will surely appreciate. The goal is to stimulate exploitation and help visitors gain historic knowledge. Those who obtain a perfect score will see their name on the “Honour Role of Champions”.  Participants can also send a virtual postcard for each correct answer. The site includes a teacher’s section and is accessible for mobile technologies such as Smartphones.
